DeWitt’s Top Songs of 2016

This is the first in a set of three end-of-year 2016 music stats posts. Going with songs first because they are the most ephemeral, followed by top artists, then top albums. I keep track of every track and podcast episode I listen to on Itunes, my Ipods, Spotify, YouTube, etc. by way of Last.fm scrobbling. If you don’t have all your platforms connected to Last.fm, then you’re doing it wrong.

I clearly did not experience enough emotional turmoil this year. Instead of songs that I played over and over because they resounded emotionally with me, its mainly, though not entirely, a bunch of songs that I listened to frequently simply because they were on a lot of playlists.

“Somebody Else” is by far my most favourite song of the year. Perfect combination of denial, emotional desire, and sexuality.

The “Make Me…” and “Don’t Let Me Down” videos are so bad.

Seriously though, I can’t stand “Cheap Thrills.” I’m disappointed in myself for listening to it so often. This song may have ruined Sia for me.
